A Lament
by Patrique Harris, Youth Ministry Director
I can’t help but be mad
Weary, diseased, changed, pained
Ugly news illuminates
Crooked earth I can’t understand
Scared children, practicing panic
Unhoused, where to chill?
Young and promising, gone too soon
Passion once resided, evicted by gloom
Need more funds, what else will I lose?
Words like daggers taking aim
Fists clamor in oblivious outrage
Try again later, too little, too late
Another roadblock, which way do I take?
They say hang in there
The shot, loud and abrupt
Anxiety struck hope
Depression conspiring
Numb
Almighty God, I must entrust
Relieve, this apparent rut
Your goodness present
Miraculous the mundane
Aroma ferocious wind can’t negate
So, on this turbulent flight, I wait
Tapped on the shoulder, who could it be?
The window shade, I am prompted
In obedience I raise
Piercing light, a glimpse of grace.
