Presenting Our New Refugee Services Manager!π
by Gissell Vazquez, ESL Director
More people have been reaching out to us to learn English due to the recent influx of refugees (mostly from African countries, Iraq, and Afghanistan.) We knew our Latino English classes would not meet that need since the curriculum is intended for hispanic speakers. So, we decided it was the time to find a person who would develop English classes specifically for Refugees as part of a bigger basket of services that we want to build.
We were looking for someone with a mature Christian faith, an ability to connect with people across cultural and racial boundaries, and an ability to envision and implement new programs. It took some time, but we found the right person. Her name is Veronica Garcia, our new Refugee Services Manager!
Why is Veronica perfect for the role? Veronica volunteered with Refugee Kids Club back in the Spring of 2021 and later she started to volunteer in Latino ESL. She knows our mission and is passionate about it. She also recently graduated with a college degree in teaching ESL.
We are so excited to see her grow and thrive in this new role. I couldn't think of a better person for this job. Letβs welcome her and cheer her on in this new adventure!
