Carrying on a Legacy
by Carla Flores, Kids Ministry Director
Hello again! Just 14 months ago, I was writing my last express article and transitioning out of Mission Adelante. Now, I am back as the Children’s Ministry Director, and what a blessing the last year has been! From virtual classes to classroom management, this past year has been all about learning. However, the biggest lesson I have learned is that students learn best when they feel safe and can have a good relationship with their teacher. Good, healthy relationships with my students were key last year as a teacher and it still holds true today as I begin leading in LIT (Leaders in Training) and Kids Adelante.
Mrs. Megan Fountain, my predecessor, knew this and lived this out faithfully during her 14 years at Mission Adelante. She dedicated her life to serving kids, but not just while she was in the building. Megan created relationships with her students that transcended the walls of Mission Adelante. She was present during parent-teacher conferences, quinceaneras, losses in the family, deportations, and much more. Her love for the kids in our community was (and is) a selfless, steadfast love.
Over the course of 14 years, Megan began to create a legacy. A legacy of love, devotion, and faithfulness to the Lord and all the kids in our community. A legacy that I now get the privilege to continue. As I begin my journey to carry on her legacy, I feel honored to be in this place now. Honored to begin dedicating my life to sharing Jesus and life with kids who grew up in the Dotte, just like me. Thank you, Megan, for creating such a beautiful legacy for me to continue.
