Arts Community Launch 🚀

Arts Community Launch 🚀

by Ashley Delgado, Ministry Apprentice

I am not sure where to even start about the arts community. 🤪

Adelante Arts community has had so much growth with families and students. Before this trimester, I wanted to see an increase in the arts community, so I did my best effort to put out the word to our community. I made flyers, made phone calls to previous students, and invited some people from the neighborhood. I also noticed that kids were most interested in our music classes, so I made the decision to bring back guitar class and swap dance class for bucket drumming. We normally averaged 15 kids at Arts community, but on opening night I was surprised to see 33 kids! Whew, what night of surprise! I thanked God that night that my phone calls and all my efforts paid off.

One of my favorite things is seeing some of my girls in arts community successfully transition from young girls, to young women. Girls like Julissa, Anisha, Sonia, and Unisha - to see them stand up to be leaders and to see where they were at and where they are now is crazy! (oh my goodness I'm getting old).

A huge accomplishment was two of these girls being accepted to Sumner Academy (one of the best schools in the state, right in our neighborhood). What’s great about leadership path here is that the students learn, teach, and grow into leaders of their own. There's one person with who I'm so, so, impressed, and that is Anisha. She has so much going for her in her life. She is a great example of a leader at a young age and she does so much for our community even though she technically isn’t on staff or a volunteer! Shes always the first to arrive and she’s the last to leave. I know all of these young leaders will have an experience like mine and will one day have young people looking up to them and calling them “Ms….” Passing the baton like this is one of my favorite things at Mission Adelante.

Alright, then, here is my Express article for the week. I Don’t Actually Have To Go, But I’m Going To Pretend I Do :I Bye!
