My Leadership Lessons π©π½βπ«

On the first day of the programs in January, Phul Maya gave a speech letting the kids know that she was leaving halfway through the trimester. Phul Maya has taught me how to stay calm and positive when leading. But when it came to kids, (and doing it alone) it has always been hard for me. Being on staff at Mission Adelante has been an adventure. There have been high and low moments, but I have gotten through them. Phul Maya leaving gave me an unexpected challenge, and gave me the privilege of being the leader for the arts community program this trimester.
At first I was nervous, as anyone would be if they were to be experiencing some new challenge in their life. When I found out that I would be leading the Arts community, it made me feel nervous at first because I'm not used to getting attention and being the center of it. When it comes to kids itβs always been hard for me to get their attention, to get them to focus and listen to me!
There were moments when I wished there was someone who could help me tackle hurdles with kids or coordinating volunteers. Megan taught me how to take care of the kids when they were not in their best behavior and how to take care of any situations or problems that arose. Things are slowly getting better!
I am also really enjoying my leadership positions at Leaders in Training (LIT) and the Leadership Training Project (LTP) programs! After being in these programs and now leading, itβs more clear to me now why we have all of the specific training for young leaders!
Everything I learned as a program attendee I can use as I work with kids and youth. I am excited to one day use this leadership experience in my career path. With the support of the staff and my family, one day, I want to study to become a nurse and help people in need. Mission Adelante taught how to communicate with kids, with adults, and how to be organized. These are all skills I will be able to use as I pursue this career path!
