English Classes in the Fall ๐
By Gissell Vazquez, ESL Director
I canโt believe it. Here weโre starting a new trimester again of english speaking classes (ESL) but it feels like weโre starting something new. With COVID-19 changes at work and coming back from maternity leave, sometimes I have the feeling that I started a new job. Incorporating the disinfecting routines and making sure all participants are safe is now a priority for us.
Iโm grateful for so many volunteers that every week take a new step of faith and come to be with their friends. Nothing scares them, they show a great attitude and love to everybody.
And what to say about our students? They work so hard at their jobs and yet they come each evening to practice English. Even though masks are really uncomfortable, especially to learn a language, they use them. I feel blessed to have all these wonderful people around. People from what I've learned a lot from.
With masks on and keeping social distance on Thursday nights the ESL students and volunteers meet in their classrooms, and once they are there, the magic begins. Even though the threat of the virus is real, people who show up, love to interact with each other. I think this is possible because when a ministry is focused on building long term relationships, people are more likely to stay connected. In doing ESL at Mission Adelante, circumstances might change, but because we believe in Godโs love for us we can give back that love to people in tangible ways like teaching English.
All I have to say is that here we are again, committed to serving, sharing Jesus and sharing life even in this hard time. This is the season when we need it the most. Weโll work hard to make ESL at the Mission a safe place where every Thursday night people can enjoy, learn, and feel alive.
